Applications for the Study Canberra Industry Experience Program are now open!

The Study Canberra Industry Experience Program pairs ACT- based students with local businesses across space tech, health tech, fintech, GovTech, robotics, Agtech, and social enterprise. These businesses signed up specifically to work with local talent! You'll join a small team, work on a real business challenge, and present your findings directly to your client.

 Open to all degrees and study levels — no prior industry knowledge required 

Program Dates: 3 August – 28 August 2026
Virtual Induction: Wednesday, 29 July 2026
In-person project briefing: 3-5 pm Monday, 3 August

Time commitment: About 50 hours in total. Most work is online and flexible, and you will also have a 1–2 hour team meeting each week at a time that suits your group and your study timetable.

How do I take part in the Study Canberra Industry Experience?
You need to complete a Study Canberra Industry Experience application form, including a 2-minute video outlining why you would like to participate in the program, by the deadline. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an email by 20 July with the outcome of your submission. There are only 60 places available across 10 teams.
When will I hear if I have qualified for the program?

We will let everyone who has applied for the program, know the outcome of their application by 20 July, 2026. 

Do I receive a badge?

Yes. You will receive a digital certificate and badge supported by the ACT Government to add to your LinkedIn upon full completion of the program.

Do I have to be based in Canberra?

Yes, you will need to be a student of a Canberra-based tertiary institution and based in Canberra throughout the 4 weeks of the program. While the work can be achieved mostly in your own time, there will be key in-person events you will need to attend in Canberra, including: client project briefing, progress meetings with your team, client presentation and end of program celebration.

Do I get to choose my team?

No. All teams will be assigned to allow for diversity across degrees, study levels, and backgrounds.

Will I be paid to work on this project?

No. You will not be paid to work on this project. This is first and foremost a learning experience. You will receive a government-backed digital credential on completion.

What if I have a part-time job?

It is fine to participate if you have a part-time job. The program is mostly asynchronous and self-paced. If you wish to take part please ensure you can attend the mandatory sessions and commit approximately 50 hours over the four weeks. You will need to coordinate with your team to ensure you are able to attend meetings and contribute equally to all deliverables.

What kind of project can I expect to work on?

There are a number of different projects spanning space tech, health tech, fintech, GovTech, robotics, Agtech, and social enterprise. The projects are structured in a way where you do not need specific technical knowledge.

Do I get to choose the project I work on?

No. You will be assigned to a team and project based on the client's project needs. We ensure clients submit projects that are interesting and achievable within the four week program timeframe.

Can I skip the induction and briefing sessions?

No. The virtual induction on 29 July and the in-person project briefing are compulsory. Students who do not attend will be removed from the program unless you have contacted your institution and Practera in advance with a valid reason.
