Students need to submit the application form at the top of this page, which includes a 2-minute video outlining why they would like to participate, by 17 July 2026.  There are only 60 places available across 10 teams.

Do I need to be a current student to apply?

Yes. This program is open to tertiary students currently enrolled at CIT or a Canberra-based university.  You must be enrolled at the time of application and remain enrolled for the duration of the program, from 3 August to 28 August 2026.

I have submitted my application, am I guaranteed a place?

No. Submitting an application does not guarantee a place in the program. All applications are reviewed and you will receive an email confirming the outcome. There are only 60 places available across 10 teams so we encourage you to apply early and ensure your application is complete.

When will I hear if I have qualified for the program?

Everyone who applies for the program will be advised of the outcome of their application by 20 July, 2026.

What happens if I don't qualify for the program?

We will keep a waitlist and notify you of future Industry Experience opportunities.

Do I receive a badge?

Yes. Upon full completion of the program you will receive a digital certificate and badge through Practera. This credential recognises your participation in a program delivered under the Study Canberra initiative.

Do I need to be living in the ACT to participate?

No. The program is open to tertiary students currently enrolled at CIT or a Canberra-based university, regardless of where you are living. However, you will need to travel to Canberra to attend the in-person project briefing at the start of the program and the celebration event at the end of the program.  Between these events, the project work is fully virtual, so you can work from wherever you are based.

Do I get to choose my team?

No. All teams will be assigned to allow for diversity across degrees, study levels, and backgrounds.

Will I be paid to work on this project?

No. You will not be paid to work on this project. This is first and foremost a learning experience. You will receive a government-backed digital credential on completion.

What if I have a part-time job?

That’s absolutely fine! The program is designed to be flexible, so you can fit it around your schedule. Just make sure you’re able to attend the required in-person sessions and commit around 50 hours over the four weeks. You’ll also need to stay in touch with your team so you can join meetings and contribute equally to group work.

What kind of project can I expect to work on?

There are a number of different projects spanning space tech, health tech, fintech, GovTech, robotics, Agtech, and social enterprise. The projects are structured in a way where you do not need specific technical knowledge.

Do I get to choose the project I work on?

No. You will be assigned to a team and project based on the client's project needs. We ensure clients submit projects that are interesting and achievable within the four week program timeframe.

Can I skip the induction and briefing sessions?

No, these are compulsory parts of the program.

You’ll need to attend:

  • Virtual induction on Wednesday, 29 July 2026

  • Celebration event on Friday, 28 August 2026.

If you’re unable to attend, please make sure you contact your institution and Practera in advance with a valid reason. Students who miss these sessions without prior notice may be withdrawn from the program.
